Without Facebook
Unknown to many, Messenger is actually a standalone app that anyone can use, even those who don’t have a Facebook account! Here’s how to sign up without Facebook:
- Launch the app and then hit “Create New Account”.
2. Enter your mobile number and then press “Next”.
3. Create a password and then tap “Next”.
4. Type in your first and last names and then press “Next”.
5. Hit “Create Account”.
6. Add a profile photo!
- You may choose to take a new photo by tapping “Take Photo”.
- You may skip this step by pressing “Not Now”.
7. Reposition and adjust your photo and then hit the Check button.
8. View your profile photo and then press the Check button once more.
- Want to use another photo instead? Just tap the X button.
9. Turn on and allow Messenger notifications and sync your phone contacts!
- You’re done! Welcome to Messenger!
With Facebook
It is certainly easier to start a Messenger account through Facebook as it automatically syncs your info and adds up your Facebook friends. Make sure you have the Facebook app on your phone!
- Enter your Facebook email or phone number and password.
2. Press “Login”.
3. Turn on and allow Messenger notifications, add your phone number, and sync your phone contacts.
- You have created a Messenger account using Facebook!
Start Chatting!

See all messages and Stories under the Messages tab. Tap any contacts on the home screen to start chatting!
You may adjust your settings through your Messenger profile. Find your Messenger QR Code, use “Dark Mode”, check “Secret Conversations”, and many more! Maximize your Messenger experience!
People
See new requests and find more friends by tapping the People tab.
